Usability to appease the masses
When we were nearing completion of the lite version, we thought we had it all figured out. The graphics, the UI, the controls, the gameplay. We thought we had figured out the most logical way to play and had setup some pretty nifty graphics (Heh, you should see the mockups I initially made for our level editor in paint, they’re pretty sketchy). Something we sort of foresaw, but not nearly to the extent that it’s gone, is the fluidness and change of those elements.
When we first released the lite version we had a lot of positive feedback, but we also had some very good feedback on things that could be changed for the better. Well, we took the feedback and ran with it, we’ve spent the past couple weeks tweaking and modifying to implement the various changes that players were asking for and it’s really neat to see the transformation.
I’m pretty certain that had several people told us that we needed doodle graphics and string instead of lasers we may have tried. Well, maybe not, that sounds dumb(until one of you reading this implements it and becomes a millionaire ;)), but we really like seeing where and why people do or don’t like parts of the game and being able to do what we can to make it work. It really makes the development process a lot more fun since we get to see what we can do to make the game better and it challenges us as developers to implement things that we never planned for.
This game has been an eye opener to the development side of software since we knew almost nothing when we started, and it also showed us how much we love being able to connect with our users and the development community in general. We can’t wait to work on our next title and continue to reach out and meet more people.
As a sidenote, we hit AppBrain’s “Hot Apps” list on the front page today :), it’s super exciting to see our game up on their front page, something that none of us really ever thought about. It’s just crazy to know that something we made is being enjoyed by thousands of people around the world and that we are on the front page of a major website. It’s funny, because we got all giddy and excited today when we saw ourselves up on the front page, it’s rather embarrassing really haha.
Well, we’re going to continue to work on updates and tweaks over the next several months, keep letting us know what you think and what we can do to make it better. You should be seeing more levels near the end of this month as well, so keep an eye out.
