Wow!
So we are as of now featured on the Android Market!
It’s been a crazy weekend, mostly because it’s a lot to take in. I mean don’t get us wrong, this has been what we’ve been hoping for for months now, but it’s just crazy. We always see all the apps that get featured and we’ve all day-dreamed about it, but those were all made by companies, like real ones, with CEO’s and whatnot, we’re just a group of college kids doing what we enjoy, and BAM!
Who knows where it will lead, for all we know we’ll drop off the featured page tomorrow and not get another single download. While I highly doubt that, it’s not to say that we’re set or anything. I think now more than ever we have a lot of work to do. Not only do we have hundreds of new users getting a chance to experience and play our game, but we have all of our users that we’ve had since the beginning, the ones who have helped us even get this far, and in a lot of ways, they’re the most important.
With that being said, I feel really bad though. With school and a wedding and a new place and new bills and trying to buy a new car (new to me that is, and used for all it’s worth so it’s cheap ;)), I haven’t put very much time into Textual Indices in the past several months. Zach has been working hard to implement new features and fix bugs, while I sorta, well, worked at my other jobs instead. It’s hard to admit that, especially with the amount of work Zach has been putting in, and how little I have been.
So as much as it seems like I’m getting back into the swing of things because we got featured, we actually just had a meeting again this past tuesday where we talked about what we wanted to get done before fall semester started again and went over who could work on what. I decided that I am going to finally finish implementing the two new objects we designed for the game. I literally wrote the code and got them working two months ago and just haven’t built any levels or finalized them. Yeah i know, slacker! I’m also going to finally finish working on a level editor. I had talked about it months ago, but never actually sat down and worked on it, but I’ve had plenty of time to think it through and so know a lot better how I’m going to go about doing it.
Drumroll………. and Zach and Sean have begun work on our iPhone port. Exciting right? We definitely know more people who have iPhones than people who have Android phones, and so get asked all the time when it’s coming to iPhone, so we finally decided to give it a shot. We really enjoy the Android community and being able to focus on it, but we decided for the sake of being more rounded on our resumes, we should have both an Android and iPhone version out.
We have a couple other ideas and projects sitting on the back burner, but hopefully soon I’ll be able to share more about them with you guys :).
Also, coming sometime towards the end of this week or the beginning of next week I’m going to put together an analysis of our sales prior to being featured and after. I know that we as developers were really curious how different things affected sales and so I know there are those of you out there who are also curious, so that should be coming soon :).
Until then, take care,
-Brandon
